Also at the event were jubilant Indian American fans eager to meet the renowned players. India’s Acting Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, cricket greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, as well as India’s CG in New York Binaya S. Pradhan, AAPI President Dr. Avinash Gupta, Commissioner Dilip Chauhan from NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ office, and others, spoke at the welcome reception for Indian cricketers. Notably, more than 96,000 people viewed the Twitter/X post of the Indian Consulate, exhibiting the popularity of the beloved sport. “This is the 1st time #TeamIndia is playing cricket in New York & first time playing World Cup in the US; Cheering for Team India to go back home with the T20 World Cup!” CG Pradhan and others present said expressing their wish. Many of those present went personally to watch the India-Pakistan match and also attend the Consul General’s reception.
